1st Art and Collectors Conference

Photo Alex Arthur The 1st Art and Collections Conference” under the title of Visions of the Art of Africa, is a first-time cultural meeting aimed both at experts and collectors, as well as a broader public interested in art.

By means of talks given by international specialists, the aim is to reflect on the active role of private collectors in the conservation and knowledge of primitive art.

Of all the participants that collaborated voluntarily, various members of the Association of the Friends of the Museum were also present.

PROGRAMME:

11:00-11:15am Presentation by Anna Casas, director of the Barbier-Mueller Pre-Columbian Art Museum of Barcelona.

11:15-12:15pm Primitive Art-Civilised visions. Elena Martínez-Jacquet, art historian and specialist in African art. Talk in French.

12:30-1:30pm Travellers to Africa: soldiers, adventurers and anthropolgists. Albert Costa Romero de Tejada, anthropologist and specialist in tribal art.

  • Cocktail in the Kumbi Saleh Gallery

4:00pm-5:15pm Brief history of the French collections of African art: from the cabinet of curiosities to the geneis of the Musée du Quai Branly. Hélène Joubert, curator of the Musée du quai Branly, responsible for the “Africa” heritage unit.

  • Break

5:30pm-7:00pm Roundtable.Collectors and Collections: the market of African art. Participating gallery owners: Raquel Montagut, Anna Ricart and David Serra. Moderator: Elena Martínez-Jacquet.
