Capgrossos! workshop for constructing a PreColumbian 'giant head'
On the occasion of the festivities of La Mercè, kids will use their imagination and creativity to construct giant heads, based on some of the pieces from the current PreColumbian Master Works.
The capgrossos (or giant heads) form a rich part of the Catalan festive tradition. In the festivities of the city, when the giants and capgrossos appear on the streets, the museum will also construct a PreColumbian giant head. We will be holding a workshop that will allow the kids to become “giant head creators”, based on important pieces from American-Indian cultures.
On two days, 24th and 26th September, the children will have the opportunity to create and give colour to a sculpture – a giant head – thus encouraging their creativity, learning new techniques and approaching them to the different phases of the production of a three-dimensional work.
The workshop will have two phases: Thursday 24th September in which the figure will be created, and Saturday 26th September when they will paint it.
Timetable: from 11am to 1pm. Age: from 6 to 12 years old.
It is necessary to reserve beforehand either by calling the museum: 933 104 516 or by sending a mail to: museubarbier@bcn.cat.
